vital essence

What keeps a body alive? Every culture that asked has answered with something that moves — breath, sap, wind, fire, gradient. This plate follows the answers, not the answer.

Scroll or drag inside a register to zoom and pan it — each register is its own viewport, so a seam never drifts off-screen. Click a mark for its gloss and source. ← → walk the beats in time order. h toggles the honesty strip's viewport marker. On a phone, swipe the timeline sideways to move through time.
True scale — linear, undistorted
Sources read for this edition (a list, never a score): English Wikipedia · Hindi Wikipedia (hi) · Chinese Wikipedia (zh) · Arabic Wikipedia (ar). Attempted and unreachable in this forge: Marathi (mr) and Greek (el) — recorded as absences A002, A003. Non-Wikipedia archives consulted: none — recorded as absence A008. All Wikipedia text is CC-BY-SA, cited per beat.
Citation form: canonical article URLs, not oldid permalinks — the forge environment could not retrieve revision IDs. This is a declared deviation from the skill's preferred practice and is carried in the ledger as absence A001.
Vendored code: none. The three-register frame, all marks and the true-scale strip are custom. vis-timeline was considered and not used, and the reason is measured rather than asserted: this plate's legibility failure was never a stacking problem, it was a scale-allocation problem. The first layout spent 364px on ten millennia holding zero dated beats and 77px on the five centuries holding eighteen of them — 4.3px per beat — while needing eleven lanes in a box that fit eight, so four beats rendered off the bottom, with thirty label collisions. vis-timeline stacks well but has a single linear axis: it would have dissolved the piecewise scale and its labelled seams, which time-axis.md makes non-negotiable, and would have made the modern crush worse, not better. The fix was to retune the segment densities to this concept's actual distribution and to make the packer reserve each item's label width alongside its band. Re-measured after: 0 collisions, 0 beats clipped, elastic height. The vendor slot stays empty on evidence.
Runtime: standalone — this plate does not import the DC runtime, which was absent from the forge environment. Theme tokens ride var(--token, fallback) so a prism can be applied without changing markup. Storage key lofl-deeptime-v1 (view state only; the ledger lives in this file, never in storage).
